Design Uniqueness and Usability

design uniqueness and usability

I thought this quote and image was worth repeating and remembering. Restated in the context of design:

Just because your design is unique does not mean it is useful”

… or relevant.

    Yep, very true Grace.

When I look at logo inspiration sites, they are not trying to be unique to the point where the logo is irrelevant and difficult to view. They are just trying to make a simple logo design with a nice ‘edge’ to it if you get what I mean. That’s why I try not to get too fussy over my logo designs, I don’t think they need to be overly unique, fancy and complicated to ‘win’ recognition.

    Thanks for the comment, Muneeb.

I also come across lots of logos like those for sale at Brandstack where two words are put together because one can create a pretty and unique logo out of those words. Thing is, the resulting company name actually sounds funny and makes no sense so I wonder how could those ever be used. If ever they are sold and actually used, I am inclined to think that the company has to tailor itself for the logo instead of the other way around.

That’s so true, when you have to work around your own logo (rather than the other way round) you know something has gone wrong! 😮
