The Power to Choose

Building up the creative soul

I choose to start this day by making two major choices that will affect the rest of it. Before I start work, I choose to be…

at peace.

I know I will receive emails of either commendation or complaint for yesterday’s work; emails of acceptance or rejection from prospective clients. I choose to be calm.

Whatever the day seems to promise (cold, gloomy and no power!), I will be happy. No matter what the day actually brings, I will allow nothing to destroy my inner joy. I may not have the power to change everything that goes on around me, but I do have the power to choose what to feel and what I can do about it. I will use that power.

Life is a series of choices. To be professional or not. To study something new or be content with what we already know. To be more focused on clients’ needs rather than personal wants. To defend proposals based on expertise or to allow ourselves to be dictated on and pushed around. To be ethical or not. The list goes on and every choice will somehow affect who we are. We all have the power of choice. Are we wielding this power right and to its fullest? Also, think about this:

“To live is to choose. But to choose well, you must know who you are and what you stand for, where you want to go and why you want to get there.” – Kofi Annan
