Branding Simplicity

A lot of popular and successful brands are known by their simple but very effective logos. This discussion on simplicity in design started by John McWade of Before&After got me thinking. Simple does not mean easy and it takes experience and more to know that perfect balance of simplicity and power.

I am reminded of this quote by Antoine de Saint-Exupery:

A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

For those of us lacking the 30 years of experience, that’s a smart rule to go by.
